Anna wins in Albuquerque!
The Hunter Classics
Amateur Women's Tour hosted their second stop of the 2005 season at Corner
Pocket Billiards in Albuquerque, NM on March 19-20. Only 8 players remained on
Sunday - 2 matches on the one-loss side and 2 on the winner's side.
Leslie Anne Rogers from Texas held a familiar spot, winning all her matches
Saturday and started Sunday winning her first match against Rachel
Hurst 7-3. Then Leslie Anne met up with local Anna Kostanian in the
winner's bracket final match. Anna Kostanian, only 17 and a high place
finisher in numerous Junior National events, had just defeated Heather
Pulford from Austin, TX 7-5 for her first Sunday match and continued her
run as she defeated Leslie Anne with a decidedly 7-2 score to win the winner's
bracket. Leslie Anne would defeat April Davis from Albuquerque with a score
of 7-0 on the one-loss side to meet Anna again in the finals. Both Anna
and Leslie Anne paid the WPBA Qualifier fee and each wanted to win this final
match, which included a $750 first place prize and the WPBA Qualifier for the
WPBA Cuetec Cues Southeast Classic in June 22-6, 2005 in Hollywood, FL. Anna
won the final match 7-5 and secured the WPBA Qualifier and top first place
prize of $750!

Heather Pulford placed 4th
and earned $250 while April Davis placed an impressive
3rd and earned $350. Leslie Anne earned $550 for her second place
finish. The second chance tournament was won by Tara McCracken, with
Yvette Johnson coming in second. Congratulations to all the
ladies!!
Wes Hunter
Wes and Cindy Hunter of Hunter Classics Custom Cues came to visit
and set up shop for the spectators and the ladies were able to thank Wes in
person. Wes lives roughly 4 hours away from Albuquerque in Alamogordo (and
owns Mission Billiards, in addition to making the well-respected and
solid-hitting Hunter Classics Custom Cues) and this is one of the few stops
that is in close proximity to Wes and Cindy Hunter. Wes was presented a
plaque, just a little present from the Hunter Classics Tour for his awesome
contribution - he donates a Hunter Classics Custom Cue valued from $1,700 to
$2,400 to every stop, and has been doing this for 12 years in a row! This
makes the Hunter Classics Tour the largest, longest running regional women's
tour in the country.
Right before the finals, the beautiful Hunter
Classics Custom Cue was raffled off! Although everyone wanted to win the
cue, local patron Kurty won it this time. But, there will be at least 6 more
chances to win another Hunter Classics Cue throughout the year - need not
be present to win!
Visit the Hunter Classics Tour next month at Shooters II
in Lake Jackson, TX April 16-17. This event is $2,000 guaranteed added and
also a WPBA Qualifier for the WPBA June event in Florida.
