HUNTER CLASSICS AMATEUR WOMEN'S TOUR
Family Fun Center hosted the fourth Hunter Tour
Stop of 1999
. Owner Terry McFadden's
pool room is the first in Colorado to host a Hunter Stop. The Family Fun
Center is a comfortable place with ten 9-foot Brunswick tables. He also
has two gorgeous snooker tables and six bar tables. A men's bar table tournament
was conducted at the same time as the Hunter Event. They have a bar and
grill that serves terrific food. Thirty-nine players came from Texas, Arkansas,
New Mexico, Arizona, and California to compete for the $750 first prize
and WPBA qualifier. Among the players in this event were the BCA Open Ladies
Champion and Runner-Up, the VNEA Open Ladies Champion, and two players
from the winner and runner-up teams in the BCA Ladies Masters Team Event.
The event
was conducted smoothly by Family Fun Center's awesome Tournament Director
Barbara Richardson. She handled both the Main Tournament and the 2nd Chance
Event with ease. A big thank you to Wes Hunter for the gorgeous cue he
donated. The lucky winner was Bob Winter. In addition, several other
donated items were raffled off. Everyone had a good time and made new friends.
The ladies in Denver were friendly and hospitable and we hope to see them
at other Hunter events.
No longer
a bridesmaid! Melanie Koger, who has been so close to winning a Hunter
Tournament, has done it. She won this event undefeated and played fantastic
throughout the weekend staging several "edge-of-your-seat" comebacks. The
final was no disappointment. The spectators were treated to a terrific
match between Melanie and Judy Byam, winner of the Arlington Hunter Stop.
The "one-race-to-11" match see-sawed back and forth until it was tied 8-8.
Melanie then pulled ahead to 10-8. Judy made a terrific run but missed
toward the end of the rack giving Melanie the last game needed for her
first Hunter Tour win! Melanie pocketed $750 and a WPBA Qualifier Spot.
The 2nd Chance Event brought two local Denverites into the final. Sharon
Blazer edged Bert Maestas and took home the $110 first prize. Our own WebMaster,
Shayla Neris, placed 3rd.
In addition
to being the first Denver establishment to have a Hunter Event, Terry also
added an extra $150 to the 2nd Chance Event. Thanks again to Terry and
Barbara for all their work. A special thank you to Wes Hunter for his unrelenting
support of this Tour.
