HUNTER CLASSICS AMATEUR WOMEN'S TOUR
Fourth
Hunter Classics Stop a Big Success at Speed's Billiards in Arlington, Texas!
Speed's Billiards
was a great host as 34 ladies fought for several qualifiers and lots of
money. As the dust settled (you know, we're in Texas), Orietta Strickland
(from Garland, TX) defeated Leslie Anne Rogers (from Arlington, TX) two
sets in the finals to win the tournament and $750. Leslie Anne Rogers
placed 2nd and won TWO Qualifiers - the WPBA Qualifier and the Texas State
Championship Qualifier.
Tanya Mueller (Speed's Manager) and Rob Gott (player
rep) with 1st place winner Orietta Strickland and Runner-Up Leslie Anne
Rogers.
Robert Gott,
player representative for Speed's Billiards, ran a scotch doubles tournament
Thursday night and cooked all day Saturday and Sunday for the ladies.
He also promoted the stop and sold the raffle tickets to the beautiful
Hunter Classics Custom Cue (which he wanted to win). The cue was,
instead, won by local player Francee Cayote, who came from her daughter's
soccer practice to pick up the cue because she was so excited. The
value of the cue is $1,900 and it has a Cocobolo forearm with 5 Bocote
points, a Cocobolo butt with a Bocote band, light teal, cardinal veneers,
and stitch rings with 5 narrow Bocote inlay windows in the butt with a
black linen wrap.

Back to the
pool action. Leslie's road to the finals started with a bye and then
with wins over Cindy Bacon (7-0), Diana Lewis (7-0), Tara McCracken (7-4),
Orietta Strickland (7-2), and Deanna Kniola (7-6), before playing Orietta
again in the finals. Orietta's road to the finals started out with
a bye and then with wins over Carrie Milam (7-1), Yolanda Valdez (7-2),
and Heather Pulford (7-6), before losing to Leslie 7-2. Orietta then
started another winning streak by defeating Audra Carter (7-6), Melinda
Bailey (7-4) and Deanna Kniola (7-4), before playing Leslie two sets in
this double elimination tournament. Orietta defeated Leslie 7-4 and 7-5
to win the tournament.
Orietta won
$750 for 1st place, Leslie won $560 for 2nd place, Deanna Kniola (from
Austin) won $400 for 3rd place, and Melinda Bailey (Hunter Board Member)
won $270 for 4th place. Amanda
Lampert from San Antonio placed 5th/6th and won $175 along with fellow
San Antonio teammate (and highest finish yet) Audra Carter. Heather
Pulford and Kathryn Long placed 7th/8th and won $100. Heather is
from Austin, and this is also Kathryn's highest finish yet. Congratulations
to all the women for a great tournament!
On Sunday, not
only were 8 women competing in the main event, there were also 17 ladies
playing in the $100 added Second Chance Tournament. CueTimes, the
Hunter Classics Tour Media Sponsor, raised $20 in a raffle for a CueTimes
subscription and added this money to the Second Chance Tournament.
AND, there was also another Texas State Championship Qualifier up for grabs!
In the end, April Cargill won the subscription, Julie Stephenson won the
tournament, $110, and the Qualifier and Tara McCracken placed second and
won $80.
The tournament
could not have been a success without Speed's gracious Manager Tanya Mueller,
our wonderful and dependable Tournament Director Randy Cole, and dedicated
Main Sponsor Wes Hunter. Thank you to all the ladies for your continued
support! See you next month at Legend's Billiards Aug 10-11th.
