HUNTER CLASSICS AMATEUR WOMEN'S TOUR
Sixth
Stop at G-Cue Billiards
WPBA Pro Julie Mason wins
6th stop. 1999 Hunter Classics Tour Champion, Melanie Koger, wins
qualifier spot.
The 6th tour stop was held
at G-Cue Billiards in Round Rock, Tx. Again a full field of ladies
from across the US came to compete. The majority of the players are
long time Hunter Classic Tour members. It's wonderful to see so many
familiar faces returning.
Play got under way at 10:30
and the tournament director Mike Roles kept a fast pace. Play continued
until only 8 players were remaining for Sunday's matches.
The top 8 players are consistently
high finishers in the Hunter Classics Tour stops. On the 1-loss side
matches were Deanna Kniola vs. Becky Nellesen and long time rivals Julie
Mason vs. Gail Lave.
The winners side featured
SWEL League team members Melanie Koger vs. Orietta Strickland and Kim White
vs. Kawania Watson battling it out. Kim White and Melanie Koger prevailed
to shoot it out for the "winner of the winner" bracket. With Melanie winning
in a very close match with Kim (7-5).
Orietta Strickland and Kawania
Watson
Gail Lave and Becky Nellesen
finished 7th/8th. Congratulations to Becky who gave birth only one
day after coming in 2nd place at the Arlington Stop! Orietta Strickland
and Kawania Watson both had a strong tournament finish of 5th/6th.
Deanna Kniola finished 4th and Kim White, with another strong showing,
finished 3rd. Kim White's loss to Julie Mason clinched the win of
the qualifier spot for Melanie Koger (Julie Mason is not eligible for the
qualifier).
Melanie made it to the finals
undefeated with matches against Kim Hughes (7-5), Lisa Marr (7-1), Shayla
Neris (7-1), Orietta Strickland (7-6) and Kim White (7-5)
Julie had a tougher route.
She started with wins over Tammy Kroop,
Kelly Harmon (7-0), April
Kelly (7-1), and then a loss to Melanie Koger (6-7). From the 1 loss
side she continued her march to the finals with wins over Lisa Marr (7-1),
Gail Lave (7-3), Kawania Watson (7-2), Deanna Kniola (7-5), Kim White (9-5)
for a rematch with Melanie.
Julie's experience became
evident with her stamina. She dominated the finals with a win over
Melanie (11-4). Congratulations to both of these ladies! Julie for
her win and Melanie for her qualifier win.
